Transformative Partnership Expert
36 uur per week, Utrecht, with occasional travels
Deadline 17 feb 2019
What AgriProFocus does
Few of the challenges humanity faces are as urgent and complex as food and nutrition security. To meet the needs of a rapidly growing world population, an unparalleled, worldwide effort is required. Members of the AgriProFocus Network are dedicated to meeting this challenge in collaboration. By working together, learning from each other and unitedly pushing for the changes needed to make agribusiness truly work for development. AgriProFocus staff brings together businesses, civil society, knowledge institutes and governments working towards food security. We help them find the right partners to solve complex problems together and develop innovative business solutions with a positive global impact. Our network connects (un)usual suspects, facilitates innovative ways of working and learning together and stimulates long term partnerships. Our members share best practices, experiences and failures in order to learn from and with each other. Reflection and sense-making around specific issues are key in our learning processes. AgriProFocus is also the space for them to set and influence the agenda in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders. Our network aims to change both the ways of working and the rules of the game in the agri-food system. By collectively improving the business environment for agripreneurs, we make sure impact is made at scale. Rooted in the Netherlands, AgriProFocus is active in 12 countries in Africa and South-East Asia. Offering unique exchanges across cultures and disciplines. Cultivating collaboration for collective impact.
What you will do
AgriProFocus is currently innovating its network services for creating collective impact, and we need you to strengthen our expertise on transformative partnerships to help deliver that value. Your role in our team is three-fold: you will be the expert, the coach and the facilitator. As our partnership expert you will be responsible to strengthen our approach to building and facilitating multi-stakeholder partnerships. We really want these partnerships to be transformative and we trust that you know precisely what that takes. As our partnership coach, you will be responsible for building the knowledge, skills and competences with our other staff, both within our Utrecht team as our 12 country teams in Africa and Southeast Asia. With your enthusiasm and expertise about partnerships you know how to motivate and train your colleagues, and make sure we keep learning and innovating. And as our global partnership facilitator you are able to scout and explore opportunities for new transformative partnerships on a global or cross-country level, and you take the lead on creating these strategic partnerships. You will be specifically looking for circular agribusiness opportunities, from solutions for reducing postharvest losses to improving soil fertility. In the near future the AgriProFocus network-services will become part of an envisioned Netherlands Food Partnership (NFP), which is currently in the process of being established.
Who we are looking for
Our new colleague is a creative, innovative and practical expert on transformative partnerships. This means you have both the knowledge and practical hands-on experience. You have a drive to design and facilitate effective approaches to tackle complex, systemic problems caused by failing markets. You are able to identify strategic opportunities for collective impact that require cross-sector partnerships. You have the skills and drive to translate these opportunities to impact pathways and multi-stakeholder coalitions. You are very ‘system aware’ and understand relationships and power dynamics between players in the system. With your facilitation skills you are able to help them address the deeper, transformative levers of systems change (e.g., power dynamics, relationships, and narratives) in addition to structural levers (e.g., practices, policies, and resource flows). You facilitate alignment towards collective goals and coordinate action across people, organisations and sectors. You have excellent networking skills and the ability to connect to and understand the individual interest and goals of different types of stakeholders across geographical, cultural differences.
And of course you have:
- a strong interest in SDG2 related challenges and opportunities in emerging economies and developing countries;
- good (oral and written) communication skills, and are capable of clear messaging;
- a flexible attitude and are adaptive to surrounding developments;
- great interpersonal skills and personal attributes such as flexibility, curiosity and self-confidence;
- fluency in spoken and written Dutch and English.
Big plusses are:
- good understanding of market transformation and the role of the private sector in contributing to sustainable development goals;
- working experience in/with private sector;
- expertise on thematic challenges and opportunities on ‘circular economy agribusiness’;
- working experience in Africa and/or Southeast Asia;
- fluency in spoken and written French.
