As the Group Sustainability Manager, you will lead the sustainability efforts across our diverse group of 37 companies, in 15 countries, with 3,500 employees and a €1.3 billion turnover. Sustainability is one of the core values of our family-owned organization, and your role will be crucial in driving our sustainability agenda forward to ensure it benefits the business while meeting the growing demands of stakeholders, including customers, employees, partners, suppliers, communities, and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Further develop and implement the group’s sustainability strategy in alignment with the company’s core values and business objectives.
Ensure all companies within the group participate in the sustainability initiatives and drive for integration into the core operations and culture.
Currently, the Double Materialiteit Assessment has been executed and priorities are set. The Roadmap is clear. This roadmap has to be transformed in workagenda’s, working groups, project with a start ánd an end, and become a more standardised way of work.
Stakeholder Engagement and Management:
Manage and balance the diverse sustainability expectations and requirements of internal and external stakeholders, including the Terberg boards and management teams, customers, employees, partners, suppliers, communities, and regulatory bodies.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to understand and address their sustainability-related expectations and requirements and to promote the group’s sustainability agenda.
Program and project management:
Drive the execution of the Sustainability roadmap, consisting of projects at group-level and company level, involving a wide variety of functional domains (Finance, HR, Procurement, Legal, Engineering, QHSE, Communication, IT etc.).
Drive a project- and topic-based approach to sustainability, encouraging cross-functional collaboration and collaborative efforts, facilitated by external expertise where necessary.
Compliance and Reporting:
Lead the response to new legal reporting demands, such as CSRD and ESRS, ensuring compliance and leveraging these developments to strengthen our sustainability credentials.
Lead the preparation and publication of the group’s annual sustainability report (and from 2025 onwards the integrated report) building on the foundation established in the first report, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Knowledge Sharing:
Connect knowledge holders across Terberg companies to share best practices and sustainability initiatives and facilitate sharing.
Team Management and development:
Lead a small team of two sustainability project managers, providing guidance and support to realize the roadmap. Foster a culture of solid project management and continuous improvement within the team.
Performance Monitoring:
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress against sustainability goals. Report on sustainability performance to executive management and other stakeholders.
Key Competencies and Skills:
- Leadership and Influence: Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and influence diverse teams across different companies and functions.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement strategies that align sustainability with business objectives.
- Knowledge of Sustainability Practices and Standards: In-depth knowledge of sustainability frameworks (such as GHG-protocol), reporting standards (such as CSRD/ESRS), methodologies such as LCA and best practices. Experience with obtaining assurance on sustainability reporting.
- Program and Project Management: Proven strong program- and project management skills for a broad portfolio of projects, being experienced in leading cross-functional teams in a highly decentralized organization. Experience with selection and management external suppliers that deliver part of projects.
- Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret information and draw insights for decision-making.
- Experience with ISO standards: Excellent knowledge of ISO standards such as ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and broad experience with certification on these standards.
- Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and lead through uncertainty.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in sustainability management, preferably within a global company environment at group level in the manufacturing industry. The 37 businesses in 15 countries have their own P&L and driving the sustainability agenda requires excellent stakeholder management.
- Seasoned QHSE manager who has evolved into a QHSE & Sustainability Manager or Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science or a related field.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing sustainability strategies and managing sustainability reporting.
- Experience in leading teams and managing programs and projects across different geographies and cultures.
- Candidates must have excellent proficiency in English, with fluency in Dutch considered an advantage.
